Guide
Use a Fathom API key to export meetings
Extract uses your own Fathom API key so the Chrome extension can fetch meeting data directly from Fathom and build the ZIP locally. This keeps the export path simple and keeps meeting content out of the Extract server.
Best for users who want to understand how the connection works before installing a transcript exporter.
Workflow
How to do it
- Open Fathom's API settings and generate a key for your account.
- Install Extract for Fathom in Chrome.
- Paste the key into the extension's connect screen.
- Run a free three-meeting export to confirm the setup.
- Export the full matching set if you have a license.
- Delete or rotate the API key in Fathom if you stop using the extension.
Manual vs Extract
Where Extract removes the busywork
Manual workflow
- API scripts can work, but require command-line setup.
- Custom scripts need their own retry, file naming, and ZIP logic.
- OAuth app setup is heavier than a personal API-key workflow.
- Server-side exports can create privacy and storage questions.
With Extract for Fathom
- Uses the Fathom API key inside Chrome.
- Fetches meeting data directly from Fathom.
- Builds the ZIP in the browser.
- Sends only license checks to Extract's Rails app.
Meeting content stays local
Extract's Chrome extension talks directly to Fathom with your API key and builds the export ZIP in your browser. The Rails app only handles license checks, checkout, and anonymous diagnostics. It does not receive transcripts, summaries, highlights, or action items.
